Bemis Heights is a retired US Army small tug (ST-1988).
She is a welded steel, model bow tug, 70 feet long, with a beam of 18 feet, and
draws 8 feet of water, and is currently configured recreational.

She was sold surplus by the USA at Tacoma, WA in 2001, has been moored in fresh
water since that time and is in excellent condition.


Power is a rebuilt Detroit Diesel 16V71NA with 623 Hp @ 2300 RPM driving a bronze, 6 foot diameter,
4 blade, 60 inch pitch, propeller through a 5-1/2 inch bronze shaft to a TwinDisc 514, 4.5:1
reverse and reduction gear.

The engine is fresh water, heat exchanger cooled and uses a thermostaticly controlled,
24 volt raw water circulating pump. A pilothouse switch allows for manual control of the pump.

A 150 gallon fuel day tank, 1791 gallon port and stbd forward fuel tanks, 1131 gallon port
and stbd aft fuel tanks provide a capacity of 5844 gallons. The fuel system includes a Walbro
6000 series 24 volt fuel primer pump and sight gauge for quick engine starts. Her tanks
currently hold 4000+ gallons of #2 diesel fuel.

Parker Racor 1000MA and Cim-Tek HydroSorb 70063 Dual primary and Baldwin BF-785 secondary
fuel filters complete the system valved to allow underway primary filter changes
without engine shutdown.
On-filter gauges allow monitoring of filter fuel pressure dorp for timely filter

Maestri 990 Electric and Blackmer WH-404 manual fuel transfer pumps enable filling of the fuel
day-tank from any of the 4 main tanks. A Cim-Tek HydroSorb 70060, 10 micron filter
cleans fuel going to the day tank. The 8 valve fuel transfer bank allows transfer
between main tanks.

The 75 gallon lube oil tank is plumbed to a 24 volt "Reverso" OP-6 oil change pump for oil
change or replenishment.

Fresh water tankage is 450 gallon port and stbd, for a total of 900 gallons.
Fresh water is pumped by a 12 volt Flo-JET 3526 automatic pump to the fore deck, galley,
head, and engine room. A 20 gallon Seaward s-1800 electric and engine coolant operated
water heater provides hot water to the head and galley.

A 1205 gallon forward ballast tank, and 942 gallon aft ballsat tank complete the tankage.

Engine room ventilation is provided by a 3000 CFM Flow-Pro 39012 blower, allowing the main deck
hatches and doors to be dogged and water tight at sea.

Engine room fire suppression is by four Walter Kidde, 50 Lbs, mounted Co2 cylinders remotely activated from the galley.

The engine room includes:
A workbench with vice,
Craftsman and Kennedy tool chests,
a Central Machinery 38142, 16 speed, 13" drill press with a 5/8" chuck,
Craftsman 150 Psi, 6.4 Cfm @ 90 Psi, and Central Pneumatic 95275 air compressors.


Shore power is 230 Volt 50 Amp single phase (can be wired for 115 vac).

The 24 volt house battery bank is a 420 amperhour, 2 bank system, switchable for emergancy main engine starting.

The house bank powers a Magnum Power MS-4024, 4000VA sine wave inverter-charger with a ME-RC
remote control mounted in the galley.The house bank is also monitored by a BCI-200 battery monitor.

Two main engine driven, 65 Amp 24 Volt alternators charge the house and starting battery banks.

LED deck lights are automatic dusk to dawn controlled or manually switched.


There is a pilot house roof mounted Kahlenberg S-1 air horn, electric horn, Carlisle
Finch 1000 watt search light, two VHF radio antennas, a Raymarine Raystar RS125 GPS
receiver, and a Raymarine RD218, 2KW radar scanner.

Steering is hydraulic via a Hynautic 1200 manual helm pump and RayMarine T3, 12V
autopilot pump with switches in the pilot house and at the main deck control station.
VDO rudder position indicators are at both stations.

Pilot house and stbd main deck control stations use Bosch Rexroth pnumatic engine and
reverse gear controls. Main deck rudder control is by the switched autopilot pump.

Electronics include:
RayMarine E120 networked multifunction display chart plotter with GPS, including
RayMarine RayTech 6.0 Planner softare and two Navonics Platinum chart
cards, Vancouver Island and the Colombia river area.
Lorance "link-8" VHF with AIS, West Marine VHF500 DSC VHF, tranceivers
and a West Marine VHF200 handheald radio.
Two engine room and four topside Bunker Hill 95914 color day/night cctv cameras
are monitored using the RayMarine multifunction display or the TV-monitor
in the galley.
Dual bilge alarm switches in each of the three water tight compartments indicate in
the pilot house and galley with buzzers and flashing led lights.

Dual engine instrument pannels are located in the pilot house and engine room and
include Aetna Engineering series 8505 digital tachometers.


The galley includes:

A full sized Kenmore 4 burner propane range and oven,
Rival RGTM701 microwave oven,
dual stainless steel sinks,
Kenmore compact 18" dishwasher,
14 CU FT Summit FF-1410W refrigerator,
Black & Decker Spacemaker electric can opener,
Cuisinart 12 cup drip coffee maker,
22 inch Seiki LED TV-monotor,
Samsung C-500 DVD player,
Quad color video processor (splitter/combiner),
speaker system,
6 - ten inch brass opening ports with stainless steel bug screens.

Heating is by a thremostatically controlled Atwood 8535, 34,000 BTU furnace that
includes ducts to the galley, head, and crews quarters.


The utility room includes:
A Frigidaire 27 in. stacked energy star washer and dryer,
Broan 1050 trash compactor,
5 cubic foot Haier freezer,
pantry, workbench,
water circulating pump control for instant hot water in the galley.
A 12 Volt, 420 AH battery bank is mounted under the workbench.
A Guest 16102 automatic charger maintains the 12 volt bank.

The aft aluminum watertight dutch door provides convenient access to the
main deck aft.


The head includes:
a vanity with sink,
Raritan PHII toilet with heated seat,
Panasonic silent vent fan with timer,
an access door to the pantry.


The crew quarters include:
a raised queen bed with storage under,
2 hanging areas,
2 dressers,
3 storage cupboards,
an office area,
a private alcove with 2 bunks
a portable electric dehumidifier .


Bemis Heights has a boat deck mounted, IMT 6425, 8 ton, knuckle-boom crane with
a 2200# capacity at a 25'-8" foot maximum reach.

Safety gear includes a USA made, 4 person CrewSaver coastal, self inflating liferaft,
two survival adult suits, a 30 inch ring bouy, and an Orion Alert-Locate kit with 12ga flare gun.

Ground tackle includes:
300 pound and 200 pound Danforth style Navy anchors,
5-15 Fm shots of new 5/8 inch chain,
chain stopper,
700 pound SpitsLift anchor davit,
Ideal TW-2-CB anchor windless powered by a White 2.5 cu in hydraulic motor.
The windless needs hydraulic hoses.

A Marine Mfg. & Supply D-6292 main deck capstan is installed aft on the Stbd. main deck.
It is powered by a 3/4 Hp, 24 Volt DC motor.

A Hobart Stickmate 205-AC 205 amp welder is mounted in the engine room alcove with
cables that will reach the length of the boat.

An new Ahead Tank AT-6T MSD is included, but is not installed.

Bemis Heights ran at 10 to 12 kts light and used about 10 GPH from Everett. WA
to Cathlamet. WA.
