Only 2 owners!!
The Pearson 35 is very sturdy classic sailor. (see Twenty Affordable Sail Boats to Take You Anywhere, by Gregg Nestor)
Hornblower is well maintained and lovingly cared for by her former and current owner. She is pictured in a feature story in the September 2014 issue of Good Old Boat magazine, by Brian Buck.
With her full modified keel, Hornblower is ideal for sailing in the shallow Florida and Bahamian waters. More than once she has gone through some tough blows off shore.
Hornblower is a basic solid cruiser. She does not have AC, or hot water or electric refrigeration.
She does have a modified insulated icebox that keeps 40lbs of ice cubes 6 to 7 days in the Florida sun, and a "Force 20 SS 3 burner w/oven propane stove.
The construction is a solid fiberglass hull with a balsa cored deck to reduce weight up high. The 5,400 pounds of lead ballast is distributed in the full keel cavity while the centerboard is fiberglass laminate. Pearson used molded liners overhead and pans below to provide the interior structure and rigidity. Wood grain or off white plastic laminates fit out the interior bulkheads, ceilings, and cabinetry. Aloft is a 44′ 6″ clearance sloop rig, stepped on deck, and supported below by a weight-bearing bulkhead.
The keel itself is full and runs way aft. With the centerboard up it only draws 3'9".
The cockpit is spacious with wheel steering and ST6002 Autopilot. There are spacious lockers under the seats.
The whole cockpit is covered with a Bimini and dodger combination for maximum protection from the elements.
Coming down the companionway, there's a full galley area that stretches from port to starboard with a "Force 10" Stainless 3 burner propane stove with oven and lots of cupboard space.
The interior cabin has teak plywood bulkheads and solid teak trim throughout. Doors and drawers are solid teak or trimmed in teak. The teak is in excellent condition and finished with "Minwax Tung Oil" to bring out the rich teak color and make maintenance easy.
Settees are port and starboard and there is an insert to create a double berth. There's a 2 leaf folding table that folds against the forward bulkhead when not in use. Again, lots of storage on the sides behind and under the cushions.
Going forward there is a locker to starboard and storage space and to port is the fully enclosed head with toilet, sink and shower with sump pump.
Forward there is a V-berth with insert to convert it to a double.
The 2009 Beta 28 HP diesel engine is very accessible under the detachable companionway stairs.
