One of the most popular lake pastimes is boating. Whether you’re cruising the lake, enjoying a fishing trip, or trying your hand at water skiing, there are countless ways to enjoy boating on these lakes.
Lake of the Ozarks , Missouri
When you visit the Lake of the Ozarks, you’ll have no trouble getting your boat on the water. With the countless marinas and public and private boat access locations you’ll be enjoying the lake in no time. With the many secluded coves located on the lake’s shoreline, you will always be able to find peace and quiet, or if you’re looking for some action, there are plenty of lively coves, including the famous Party Cove.
Officially named Anderson Cove, Party Cove is arguably the most famous (or infamous) spot on the lake. The boats at Party Cove range from your average motorboat to yachts that look more suited for the ocean. Whatever craft you sail in on, don’t be surprised if visitors want to hop on and party with you. For those looking to make an appearance at Party Cove, it’s located between the 3 and 4 mile markers in the Grand Glaize Arm of the lake.
Lake Tahoe , California / Nevada
The Lake Tahoe shoreline is unique in the fact that its shoreline is dotted with so many beaches. Many of these beaches (which are part of public parks) also have public boat launches nearby. At some of the beaches, such as the Tahoe Keys area, you can even bring your boat ashore directly into the sand. The largest beaches are found on the east shore, while the most private are along the lake’s northeast shore. The winds pick up in the afternoon, making brining boats ashore difficult, so it is recommended that boaters come ashore in the morning.
Using boats for water sports is also a very popular Lake Tahoe activity, and you’ll be guaranteed to see more than traditional waterskiing. Visitors to the lake also enjoy tubing, wake boarding, and parasailing. If you’re in the mood for a human-powered boating experience, kayak rentals are available all throughout the lake area.
Whether you’re in the mood for an adrenaline rush or just the rush of the wind through your hair, Lake Tahoe and the Lake of the Ozarks offer a great boating get away for everyone. Have a look at LakeRentals.com today and see the amazing lake destinations you can visit!

Gone fishing grouper fishing report out of johns pass Florida Spear fishing Reports capt. larry blue
Finally a break in the offshore grouper fishing. The past couple of weeks we have been catching more shallow water black grouper than we have for the better part of the past few months. The grouper have moved into the 35 to 60 foot depths making the long run offshore almost unnecessary. The king mackerel that have taken up winter residence have provided great deep water trolling action and the Spanish mackerel have covered the near-shore areas.
Last week, I took a couple of diver friends of mine out with me as the water was as they say; “top to bottom visibility.†My mate, Aaron Kalwa and Chad Campbell; owner of Suncoast Dive Center , in Seminole, accompanied me to take advantage of a calm day and gin clear water. We started the day just after sunrise, meeting at my boat behind “Gators Saloon.†After stowing 6 tanks of air and all the necessary dive gear and wet suits onboard, we began filling the Igloo cooler full of ice in expectation of a good day on the water.
Passing under the John’s Pass Bridge I pointed the boat offshore headed for a small natural ledge off of Treasure Island in 55 feet of water. After a 40 minute run I slowed the boat to read the GPS for the telltale numbers and locate the exact location of the sharp limestone ledge. Circling around for a few minutes the bottom machine ticked away watching the bottom outline and when the moment was just right Aaron tossed over the weighted plastic jug to mark our spot. Running into the wind about a hundred feet in front of the marker jug we released the anchor and let the boat settle back on the hook.
Aaron and Chad took their time putting on their wet suits and gear without saying a word as though thinking deeply about what they were doing. Perhaps they even pondered how cool the water would feel on their skin when it penetrates the neoprene covering. Checking, double checking, and even triple checking each article needed for life on the bottom they began to hurry their effort. Soon afterwards they were both over the side and in the water, in a flash were beneath the surface headed for the fish below.
From the deck of my boat I could see them moving effortlessly along the bottom sliding from left to right and then back again. Crisscrossing the ledge checking under every place that might hold a fish they searched even what they checked before. The water was so clear it was possible to see the fish moving out ahead of the divers in pursuit. Forty-five minutes later the divers’ bobbed above the surface, dragging stringers loaded with fish that they gathered from the lime stone ledge.
Aaron was first to the boat, he handed me his dive stringer and I heaved it onboard. With a bang it came down on the deck of my boat with fish flopping and slapping their tails on the fiberglass floor. Aaron then slipped off his flippers and mask and threw them into the boat, landing on top of the pile of fish. He then tied his BC and tank to a safety line cleated to the stern of the port quarter. Seconds later he climbed up to free himself from the water. He turned to retrieve his air tank and BC from the water. Chad then swam to the stern and repeated the routine that Aaron had just completed.
Removing the fish from the stringers they were placed in the cooler and then covered with ice. There were; black grouper, scamp, mangrove snapper, triggerfish, large sheepshead, and the most sought after of all fish by divers; hogfish. Hogfish are colored a brilliant red and yellow and have huge fang covered mouths. Most of the time they won’t take a baited hook, they almost must be taken by divers. All of these fish are great eating and would make for a great fish-fry when we got back to the dock.
Chad and Aaron told of the fish that stayed out of their range and the many fish that they could see that scooted off into the sand area to escape the divers spear. Next time I come back to this spot I’ll have to use rods and reels to try my luck. But I must admit, today we loaded the cooler and never even cut one bait, or tied a fish hook to a leader. Not bad. Now would you please pass the tartar sauce! I’m getting hungry.
Good luck and good fishing, Capt. Larry

Gone fishing capt. larry blue
This fishing report is from johns pass treasure island florida close to tampa and st petersburg Grouper fishing report, snook fishing report, trout fishing report, redfish report and more.
Offshore bottom fishing for grouper has been excellent. The good thing about this time of the year is that you don’t have to travel very far out into the Gulf to find the fish. Some of the best fishing has been within 8 or 10 miles from shore and a number of fish have been caught even closer.
Small rock piles and hard bottom areas have been holding the baitfish that are attracting the grouper to search out a meal. Position your boat over the hardest bottom you can find. Start fishing using smaller hooks baited with cut squid. The first fish to the bait will be; triggerfish, grunts, snappers, black seabass, and some other small but tasty fish. We have even been bringing in some nice sized flounder. The activity will attract the grouper closer to investigate. After a short time of catching the smaller fish, drop down a big bait or perhaps a line baited with a live pinfish. You better be ready when the grouper hit as it won’t be a slight tug like the grunts and triggerfish, you’ll be holding on for dear life. Just don’t let the grouper get under one of the rocks or fishing will be over as the grouper bellows out a warning to his buddies
Anglers fishing along the ships channel have been rewarded with good catches while trolling big lipped plugs along the edges. Several plugs work for this, Mirrolure, Bomber, and Rapala, to name a few. The use of a planer, or down rigger, is effective using smaller lipped plugs. Work the lures just off the bottom, taking care not to snag the scattered rocks. This method is good to find the grouper out away from the channel as well. Running across the hard bottom trolling the lures should help to locate the concentration of fish. Once found you could anchor and proceed using bottom fishing techniques.
A synopsis of inshore fishing. Sheepshead are on the bridges and docks gnawing their meal right off the pilings. Redfish can be found around some of the docks with deep water nearby. Trout are among the grassflats during the day and on the lights at night. Snook have made their way up into most of the backwater canals and bayous. Black drum have been under a number of bridges in the area feeding on blue crabs. In short, inshore fishing is great.
Silver trout are on the beaches. Fishing for silver trout during the winter months is a staple in this area for light tackle anglers. The trout can be found just out along the Gulf beaches in rather large schools. They are easy to locate, just work your way up the beach watching the bottom for the fish. The use of a fish finder is of importance when the water is cloudy. Using light tackle rods baited with any cut bait or tossing small soft bodied lures is effective. While these fish are easy to catch and you should catch quite a few, please be selective and release those you won’t eat. Let the little ones go and they will be back next year when you return. Teach your children conservation.

Gone fishing report reports www.boatboss.com Free boat classifieds capt. larry blue
It won’t be long and the winter chill will set in on Florida . It’s that time of the year when the cold fronts that deliver snow and sleet to the north will descend on us with a blanket of cold air. The weather conditions here in sunny Florida change rapidly. After a cold front moves in we will just have a day or two wait until the winds die down and our fabulous fishing restarts for another week or ten days.
King mackerel fishing this fall has been fairly good. The kings will head south with the repeated fronts that cool the water down too far below their liking. Kings will be caught throughout the winter season. Most often during this time a flat-line rod baited with a live or even dead sardine will be successful for taking a king or two. Keep a line out for a passing king that maybe following your slick made while fishing for bottom fish such as grouper and snapper.
Grouper fishing has picked up considerably of late. The fish are moving in closer to shore feeding on the many schools of baitfish. The grouper will be found near rocky outcroppings and over the hard bottom limestone and coral. They can be taken on a variety of baits and lures. When the water gets much cooler you may find that the grouper will eat a slice of squid just as readily as a sardine. We often bait our hooks with a little bit of both at the same time. If trolling for grouper use a large plug lure, slow troll over hard bottom until the fish are located. Once you’ve found where they are by trolling, go back and anchor to do some bottom fishing.
There have been a number of sharks around the offshore and near-shore fishing areas. They will often take a bait set out for other species. A HARD tug on the line and then a cut off leader are evidence of their presence. If you would like to land one you may need to change your tackle to equal their sharp teeth. A wire leader will help to prevent the cut off. But doing this will reduce your chances of a bite. A very heavy mono leader might help for all but the bigger sharks.
Backwater fishing is usually great during this time of year as the snook, trout and redfish will be on the hunt for something to fatten their bellies for the winter. We will see many “Bluebird days†that beckon us to grab a fishing rod and head out to try our luck. Don’t hesitate, get up, get out, and Go Fishing! The couch will still be there when you get back.
Here it is already into December and fishing for a Christmas gift for that favorite angler couldn’t get any more confusing. There are several great tackle shops in the area that would be more than happy to assist in picking just the right thing with you.
Dogfish Tackle, 727-393-2102, 8750 Park Blvd. , one block east of Starkey Road .
Betts Fishing Center , 727-518-7637, 12504 Starkey Road . Gulf To Bay Bait & Tackle, 727-367-4756, 6920 Gulf Blvd. Holy Mackerel Tackle, 727-547-9889, 8629 49th Street . These are a few of the better stocked and friendliest in the area. They are professional fishermen demanding the best for themselves and their customers. Support our local vendors.
Good luck and good fishing, Capt. Larry
